Hanging by a thread.
Project Statement
Photographs can trigger memories. We can be transported to another time and place each filled with sounds and smells and tastes. We can feel another’s skin. Between Forgetting and Knowing consists of 147 strands of memories. Over 3000 of my 35mm color and black and white negatives and positives are reshaped with heat, hand pierced and knotted on clear filament. Research on the mathematics of memory provided the structure and pattern of the lines. As I was linking each piece of film with knots, I was thinking about what makes us human, our stories and collective memories.
Between Forgetting and Knowing is a three section mixed media installation.
