Lenscratch Photography Educator: Amanda Breitbach

Lenscratch, the online daily photography journal founded by Aline Smithson in 2007, celebrates a different contemporary photographer each day and has become a significant platform in the photography community. As a guest editor for Lenscratch, I feature a photography educator who inspires not only with their own personal work but in their career as a teacher.

This August, I am pleased to highlight Amanda Breitbach—photographer, educator, and dedicated mentor. Through her art and mentorship, Amanda embodies both excellence and vision in creative practice and education. Her thoughtful answers in this article, along with the enthusiasm she shares when discussing her teaching, clearly show how she inspires and supports her students every step of the way. Amanda’s work carries a quiet power and impressive scope, qualities she brings into the classroom with the same rigor and passion, as echoed by her students’ testimonials. This article features selections from three of Amanda’s projects, an interview, and photographs and statements from some of her students. You can read it here.

Elizabeth Stone

Visual artist Elizabeth Stone's work explores perception and time by combining her study of photography and drawing with biology. The duality of art and science is a strong influence when considering her own place in the world and the marks that she makes.
