Lenscratch Photography Educator: Rebecca Nolan

Each month, as a guest editor for Lenscratch, I interview a photography educator who inspire students of all ages. The series celebrates an educator’s insights, strategies, and excellence in fostering creativity and resilience.

Lenscratch, the online daily photography journal founded by Aline Smithson in 2007, celebrates a different contemporary photographer each day and has become a significant platform in the photography community.

For the month of July, I am delighted to feature the words and work of Rebecca Nolan. While I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting Rebecca in person, her unwavering dedication to both photography and teaching is evident not only in her own work, but also in the achievements of her students and her responses in this article. Rebecca’s artwork reflects a profound exploration of place with compositions that are layered, rich and visually compelling. The selection of her student’s images reveal a genuine authenticity with concepts that demonstrate research and respect for the photographic medium. Rebecca exemplifies excellence, mentorship, and artistic vision in every facet of her career, and it is a privilege to honor her contributions.
The article includes a selection of Rebecca’s images, a small sampling of her student’s images and an interview. You can read it here.

Elizabeth Stone

Visual artist Elizabeth Stone's work explores perception and time by combining her study of photography and drawing with biology. The duality of art and science is a strong influence when considering her own place in the world and the marks that she makes.
